Information Center names volunteer of the year

Date: 6/19/2014

Volunteers with the Taylor Connections Food Program recently were in the spotlight as they were named The Information Center’s 2014 Volunteer of the Year award winner.

The annual winner may be a person or a group that has unselfishly given their time and talents to enhance the community. The award winner works in conjuction with The Information Center, based in Taylor, through its various programs and services.

The Information Center became involved in the Taylor Connections Food Program in September 2008. The program has provided an estimated 5,500 Downriver families with nearly $30,000 in food. Over time, changes in agency staff, public demand and funding sources have occurred, but The Information Center staff found one area of consistency has always remained — the dedication of the Taylor Connections Food Program volunteers.

They added that dependable staff of TCFP volunteers is steadfast in their desire to help the community by selflessly giving their time to support neighbors and complete strangers, not only with food, but also with smiles, hugs and kind words.

“Our volunteers are an intregal part of our organization,” President and CEO of The Information Center Edward D’Angelo said. “The Information Center could not provide the same level of community support without them. We recognize the Taylor Connections Food Program volunteers for their dedication and and continued work through this much-needed program.”
