When Lincoln Park homeowner Gloria Regorrah scheduled an appointment with a Taylor nonprofit organization, she didn’t realize it would lead to the free replacement of her failing furnace.

With the weather changing to colder temperatures, the staff at radio station 99.5 WYCD wanted to help a family in need. They sent out an on-air appeal to metro Detroit businesses to join them in this venture.

Expert Heating and Cooling President Mark Angellotti quickly responded to the request. The Taylor company offered to provide a new heating, ventilating and air conditioning system for a needy family.

The next step was to find a family in need. The country station called upon its relationship with The Information Center, a nonprofit in Taylor that has been serving Downriver, Monroe County and out-Wayne County for 40 years.

The center went to work to find a needy recipient. Regorrah’s family was chosen based upon the urgency of their situation.

Regorrah and her sister are raising Regorrah’s two grandchildren, ages 13 and 8.

With many added expenses, replacing an older furnace wasn’t in the budget.

“I’m so happy and so thankful. We’ve had trouble with the furnace for awhile,” Regorrah said. “The floods this summer didn’t help. Since the flooding, we’ve heard weird noises coming from the furnace in the basement.”

The new furnace was installed by Christmas. Angellotti said his company was glad to help.

“Expert Heating and Cooling and all of our employees could not be more pleased than to help someone like Gloria. Our thanks go out to Carrier Great Lakes, The Information Center, 99.5 WYCD and all of the Downriver communities who support us in so many ways. Without everyone doing their part, these acts of kindness do not happen.”

Jason Raithel, the radio station’s morning show personality, said he was raised in Lincoln Park and pleased to help a family from that community.

Edward D’Angelo, president of The Information Center, said he was pleased the organization could be part of this effort.

“Collaborating with local businesses, our donors and the community to make wonderful things happen is what we do. We appreciate this opportunity to join with Expert Heating and Cooling and 99.5 WYCD Detroit to assist a family in our community,” he said.

The Information Center is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. It provides a helpline with free comprehensive information and referral services for the public, assistance to the unemployed, services for seniors and the disabled, support and training for caregivers, and personalized assistance in understanding eligibility for public benefits and other human services.
