| "I have a 12-year-old son. He is causing me a lot of concerns lately. He is refusing to go to school. When he does go, I hear from the school about the trouble he's causing there, disrupting classes and picking fights. My boss is getting angry that I have to leave work so often in order to troubleshoot. He's even told me if the time off work doesn't improve in the next month, I may lose my job. I can't afford that..." |

"I operate a small business in the area. Finding and keeping good employees is important to me and I know benefits help to keep workers that I've already trained. I want to help my employees with their life problems, but can't afford to hire a full-time human resources assistant. And, bottom-line, I need them on the job..." |

Teenagers. Babies. Parents. Spouses. Family Responsibilities. Work Responsibilities. Chances are you love them. Chances are managing the balance between them all creates challenges. No wonder some of those challenges spill over into the workplace. Unfortunately, when they do, they create even more challenges.
Helping to manage challenges and stay productive at the worksite is what Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is all about. Employers find that for a small investment, EAP actually save them money. Nationally, studies show that businesses of all sizes and types average a $4 return for each dollar invested in EAP. Why?
Studies indicate that about 10% of the workforce are dependent on alcohol and other drugs that result in more than a 50% decrease in productivity.
Personal problems result in a 30% decrease in the quality of employee's work.
EAP can improve an employee's ability to function optimally on their job, thereby reducing "down-time" due to tardiness, absenteeism, dependency or distractions.
Over 75% of employers report difficulty finding qualified applicants to fill vacancies.
Exit interviews report that employees identify work/life issues as the primary reason to search for new employment.
Human Resource surveys report that many employees feel undervalued at their workplace.
EAP services provide a very attractive benefit to recruit and retain quality employees, demonstrating the employer's interest and concern for their workforce.
Approximately 20% of total payroll costs are attributed to absenteeism, turnover, and training.
Employers continue to experience significant increases in health care costs.
Medical claims due to accidents and health problems are two to three times higher for troubled employees.
EAP services assist employers in addressing significant personal problems proactively resulting in a reduction of related healthcare costs and expenses due to absenteeism, turnover and training of new hires.
Employee performance problems lead to a significant increase in supervisory workloads.
Human resources staff are inundated with a variety of employee issues that distract from their core responsibilities.
By allowing EAP services to respond and manage these types of problems, human resources staff can concentrate on their primary responsibilities.
How Employee Assistance Programs Works
The Information Center's EAP is a short-term intervention service utilizing Masters level counselors trained in the clinical assessment of a wide variety of personal problems. Employee issues are assessed and the employee is guided to identify the obstacles preventing resolution. They are coached to determine the necessary actions needed to overcome those obstacles and given the support needed to take action. In The Information Center's EAP, nine out of 10 clients successfully resolve their issues without referrals to resources requiring the use of costly health care benefits. That results in a savings to the employer.
The Information Center includes a wide variety of services. As an employer, you can tailor your EAP to fit your needs, selecting among a menu of services ranging from unlimited telephone consultation, to in-person counseling services, to critical incident stress debriefings, to management consultation. The choices are up to you.
