Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed to help with all of our services, activities, and events. You can decide which specific tasks best fit your interests. We will provide the training, and we ask that you commit a minimum of 4 hours a week. Opportunities include:
Information & Referral Assistant Update resource lists by telephoning agencies to obtain current information. Enter client data into computer data system. Assist with prescription intakes, mailings, and making follow-up calls to clients. Maintain extensive resource files, organize incoming mail, and participate in marketing events.
Data Entry Assistant Enter client data into computer tracking system. Assist with pulling client information from computer for follow-up purposes. Assist with pulling client information for reporting and data analysis. Basic computer skills helpful.
Holiday Program Assistant (Seasonal) Assist with client interviews for holiday intake. Record required documentation and maintain client files. Assist with holiday mailings, computer data entry, and receiving and distributing gifts. Make calls to seniors for holiday meals.
Tax Assistant Help seniors file Federal and State taxes, Homestead Property Tax Rebates, and Home Heating Credits. Two weeks training is provided.
Bingo Assistant Help our workers sell bingo sheets and charity game tickets, call the bingo game, call back winning combinations, sell specials, help players cover their cards when they have to leave their seat, and track winners.
Event Assistant (Good Old Days, Gala) Assist at our special events held throughout the year. Help with event registration, set-up, collecting and distributing tickets, collecting door prizes, making follow-up calls to potential donors for ads, auction items, door prizes, etc.

Student Internships The Information Center, Inc., has a long history of providing meaningful, client-oriented student placement opportunities. Successful student placements from Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan, and Madonna have enriched the lives of our students, as well as that of the agency. Students may be either Bachelor or Master level placements.
BSW Typically, BSW placements assist in Information and Referral services. BSW students receive training in handling client calls, assisting walk-in clients apply for various programs, conduct follow-up calls to clients to determine if help was received, and have the opportunity to learn about the vast network of human services in the region.
MSW Typically, MSW placements assist with one-on-one clinical counseling within the Employee Assistance Program. MSW students also assist in Care Management Services, providing psycho/social assessments to elderly and disabled persons, connecting clients with mental health services. Opportunities also exist for those specializing in the administrative or organizational social work field.
