Jamie is Crying

"Jamie is crying at her desk again. What can her employer do to help Jamie address her personal issues and start meeting her work related deadlines again?"

Jamie was so stressed she couldn't think straight. Her teenage son was out of control, she suspected that he was experimenting with drugs and participating in dangerous activities with friends. Jamie was worried, overwhelmed, exhausted and difficult to get along with. She was not completing her work assignments and it was affecting the overall office atmosphere.

Few of us are immune to personal or family problems. Sometimes, even a good employee just can't ignore personal life challenges during working hours. Unfortunately, problems at home can have a big effect on productivity at work.

A business owner/operator has many responsibilities. Most are not trained counselors, but they can often find themselves in the position of listening to employee's overwhelming personal concerns. The question becomes how to get help for this valued employee and resume normal productivity in the shortest possible time period.

By calling our 24-hour, toll-free hotline, employees and their family members can receive an immediate response to their concerns and, if they desire, an appointment with one of our professional counseling staff at a convenient location near their home or work. Many times, the caller is in need of options to help them reduce their stress level or help finding the best available service or program. That's where our phone counselors come in. By providing quality, up-to-date resources and referrals, the employee is able to focus on their job and has fewer distractions.

For Jamie, The Center's Employee Assistance Program was able to help in a variety of ways. Jamie received an immediate assessment of her situation and emotional support by a certified and trained professional by midday. Together, they devised a plan that included short-term counseling and specific information about area resources to help her and her son resolve their problems. Additionally, the counselor working with Jamie maintained contact with her to insure that she was obtaining the help she needed and that the resources provided were accurate, responsive and helpful.

According to Jamie, "Having someone to walk me through the steps and to listen to me when things got really bad, helped me to not feel so alone and probably saved my job."

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Employee Assistance Program is ready to assist.
