Caregiver Workshops

"I've been helping Mom for three years now, ever since she broke her hip. I've been visiting her every day, but I'm seeing some decline lately and want to know what options there are so we can plan for her future needs. Not only that, but between running to help Mom and keeping up with the children's schedules, I'm feeling at the end of my rope. Am I losing it?"

Caregiver WorkshopCaring for an elderly family member can be tremendously rewarding, and it can also put a lot of stress on the caregiver. Often, it is the caregiver who is helping to plan for future options. To do that effectively, it's nice to have a little help. The caregiver workshops provide that help.

The primary goals of the caregiver workshops are to provide awareness of resources and services available, and to provide a support group atmosphere where other caregivers can share what has worked for them and the emotions that they have had along the way. While you may feel alone, you are not alone.

The caregiver series consists of twelve workshops, presented weekly by a professional social worker. Each workshop covers a different topic and participants are welcome to attend a single workshop or the entire series. Two complete series are offered, each covering different topics. A support group component is included, providing an opportunity to network with other caregivers and resolve mutual concerns.

Topics include

  • legal issues,
  • long-term care options,
  • paying for elder care,
  • housing options,
  • caring for the caregiver,
  • home safety, and a host of others.
